BLUEFIELD, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Bluefield man is facing multiple criminal charges following a reported domestic violence incident and subsequent confrontation with police.
According to authorities, officers were dispatched on January 21, 2025, to a residence on the 300 block of Frederick Street in response to a report of an ongoing domestic assault. A caller told dispatch that a man, later identified as Tony Bland, was physically attacking her daughter. The caller later advised that Bland had left the residence on foot, though his direction of travel was unknown.
When officers arrived, they made contact with the victim, Chasity Nasiru, who showed visible injuries, including swelling and redness to her left eye and a contusion on her left shoulder. Nasiru told officers she and Bland had been arguing when he forcefully grabbed her, pushed her to the ground, and got on top of her. She said her injuries occurred when she struck the ground. Nasiru declined medical treatment at the scene.
Officers searched the residence for Bland but did not find him inside. While patrol units searched the surrounding area, Sgt. H.D. Browning located Bland detained in the 600 block of North Street. Officers reported that Bland appeared highly intoxicated, noting slurred speech, the strong odor of alcohol, and difficulty standing without assistance.
Bland was taken into custody and transported to the Bluefield City Police Department. During transport, officers said he became verbally aggressive and made repeated threats toward law enforcement. His behavior reportedly continued at the police station, where he became noncompliant during the booking process.
Police said Bland later lunged aggressively toward officers, grabbing Sgt. Browning by the collar. Officers used force to restrain him and placed him in an isolation cell due to his continued aggressive behavior.
Bland has been charged through West Virginia Magistrate Court with domestic battery, public intoxication, assault on a law enforcement officer, and two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer. He was lodged at the Bluefield City Jail and is awaiting arraignment.
The incident occurred in Bluefield, Mercer County, West Virginia.
