BRIDGEPORT, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The holidays are without question one of the busiest times of year for shoppers everywhere.
Weather one finds themselves going store to store in search of the ideal holiday gift or traveling to spend time with loved ones, the hustle and bustle can seem constant as holiday festivities are ongoing.
As such, the Bridgeport Police Department issued some timely tips Thursday on safety in shopping and parking lot situations this holiday season.
These include tips to avoid attracting attention from potential thieves while getting shopping done, such as paying with checks and/or cards to avoid revealing cash being carried, as well as carrying as little as possible on one’s person with regard to purchased items.
Additionally, shoppers are encouraged not to leave their purchases or children alone, and to instruct children to seek out a security guard or employee for help should they become separated from the parent or guardian.
Regarding parking lot safety, the Bridgeport Police Department advises walking in well-lit areas and being aware of what and who is nearby, being sure to lock doors, having keys prepared upon arrival at the vehicle, being aware of where one is parked, and not leaving packages in plain sight in seats.
It is recommended that packages be kept in the trunk, under the seats, or in a concealed rear cargo area so as to avoid attracting attention from potential thieves.
But the final tip provided may be the one of the utmost importance: Be sure to report all suspicious activity by calling 911 and providing a description.
