BARBOURSVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A litany of charges have befallen the perpetrator of a kidnapping incident which occurred on Wednesday and led to a physical altercation with law enforcement, as well as an attempt to escape by jumping a chain link fence.
According to reports from the Barboursville Police Department, on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, authorities responded to the residence of a female victim who was physically forced to remain inside the residence for over three hours and threatened multiple times with death or injury should she attempt to leave.
The suspect – identified as Richard Allen Hayden, 32 years old – subjected the victim to an array of physical attacks, including physically throwing the victim on a bed before striking her in the throat with his forearm, punching her in the face and head, and threatening to “skin her alive” while brandishing a large hunting knife.
At one point during the incident, according to the victim, she was being strangled by the suspect. When she stated that she could not breathe the suspect reportedly continued strangling her while telling her that he hoped she died.
Responding law enforcement made contact with Hayden, who blatantly disregarded all verbal commands issued and attempted to physically resist arrest when attempts were made to detain him. Additionally, reports indicate that the suspect fled on foot from officers and made an attempt at jumping a chain link fence surrounding the property.
The suspect continued resisting arrest, physically fighting law enforcement by punching and kicking until he was eventually restrained and taken into custody. Responding officers sustained minor injuries as a result of the incident and received treatment at a local medical facility. The condition of the victim has not been disclosed at the time of writing.
