Charles “Charlie Bee” Pittman, age 80, of Sophia, WV passed away on
Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Cornerstone Specialty Hospital in Huntington, WV with
his loving wife, daughter, and sister-in-law Shelby by his side.
Born on March 12, 1941 in Glen White, WV, he was the son of the late
Dempsey S. Pittman and Myrtle Sanger Pittman.
Charlie loved and worked the coal mines for over 30 years, was a master
electrician, fireboss, and a long wall miner until a work-related injury forced
him into retirement/disability.
In earlier years he was an avid golfer, who won many tournaments, and
continued his love of golf by following the PGA throughout the years. He loved
to ginseng with his friends, hunting and fishing with his brother, sons, and
daughter. Charlie was also an avid reader of God’s Word and books that was
about how he was raised in the mountains of West Virginia; sharing that love of
reading and discussing with his sisters. Charlie’s and Lois’s most precious
time and enjoyment was going to the river and spending time with their
grandchildren, and family reunions. He also enjoyed having coffee with his
friends Tommy, Wayne, and Larry at what we affectionately called the “liars
club”.
Charlie loved and attended Beckley Praise Church when his health
would allow him to do so, and when he was not able to attend, he, Lois, and Aunt
Cubby would not miss a service by watching on television. Aunt Cubby and Aunt
Lucille was his precious prayer warriors that he held close. Charlie and Lois
always had a giving and loving heart so much that he and Lois would do or give
to anyone in need even if they did without; always finding a way to help.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded death by his children,
Jeffery A. Pittman, Terri Rae Clay, and Charles G. Pittman; his siblings Joyce
Hopkins, Violet Synder, Guy, Alfred, and Roger Pittman; his mother and
father-in-law Raymond and Cordelia Richards; brother-in-law Alvin “Duck”
Richards, and sister-in-law Virginia Cadle.
His survivors left to cherish his memories include, the love of his
life and wife for over 50 years, Lois Collins Richards; his remaining child and
his “baby girl” Charla (Van) Deskins, his daughter by love, Tracey (Perry)
Garretson, his grandchildren, Ryan (Brandi) Pittman, Joseph (Katlyn) O’Dell,
Charles (Allyson) Clay Pittman, Bethany Pittman and Andrew McKinney. He also
has great grandchildren, Draven Pittman Bolen, Isabella and Connor “Buckshot”
Pittman, Laiken and Reagen O’Dell, and Charity Cochran; his precious sisters,
Rena Perkins of Beckley, Sue Richardson of Illinois, Faye Lynch of North
Carolina, and Beverly (Frank) Wolfe of Ohio; Charlie’s beloved sisters-in-law
whom he cherished as if they were his own children, Shelby (Jun) Neri of
Princeton, and Barbara (Joe) Howerton of Sophia; His brother-in-law, Tolley
(Jeanetta) Richards of Beckley; his precious prayer warriors Aunt Ella “Cubby”
Bowman and Aunt Lucille McPeake, and all of his children’s friends who loved and
affectionately called him “pops and Uncle Charlie”.
