LEWISBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A routine traffic stop in Greenbrier County escalated into a drug investigation Thursday evening after deputies say they discovered cocaine, fentanyl, drug paraphernalia, and cash inside a Mercedes SUV.
According to the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department, Deputy Herman Rodriguez pulled over a white Mercedes SUV on December 11, 2025, after learning the registered driver, Jed Williams, had an expired license.
Driver Admits License Was Expired
When asked to step out of the vehicle, Williams told the deputy he had forgotten his birthday, which marked the expiration of his driver’s license. A personal search of Williams turned up a blue straw containing suspected drug residue.
Williams gave deputies permission to search the vehicle.
Search Reveals Scale, Cash, and Drug Paraphernalia
Additional deputies, including Deputy Staley, Deputy Helmick, Deputy Doss, and Lt. Hudnall, arrived to assist.
A back-seat juvenile passenger was searched and found to have a black digital scale in his pocket along with $751 in cash.
Another adult passenger, Nyeem Waheem, was also removed and searched. A front-seat passenger — a juvenile — was searched as well, though their identity has been withheld.
Cocaine and Fentanyl Found in SUV
During the vehicle search, deputies discovered:
-
An aluminum foil bowl in the front center console containing a baggie of white powder, later field-tested positive for cocaine and fentanyl
-
A second piece of aluminum foil in the rear passenger area containing white powder, which tested positive for cocaine
All occupants were transported to the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office for questioning.
Driver Says He Was Paid in Narcotics
During interviews, Williams told deputies he had been giving the three passengers rides in exchange for narcotics, a practice he said had occurred between two and five times over the past few weeks. He admitted he expected to receive drugs again during this trip.
Waheem told deputies the drugs were not his and claimed the group was simply getting a ride to the store. He also acknowledged knowingly bringing two underage juveniles with him from Ohio to West Virginia.
