The Children’s Home Society of Southern West Virginia (CHS) has received a $40,000 donation from Little General and President of Little General Stores, Greg Darby.
On Friday morning, Mary White, CHS Chief Operations Officer, and Marilyn Pearce, CHS Regional Director, met with Little General’s Director of Public Relations, Charles Houck, inside Little General’s Harper Road location for the check presentation.
Also in attendance was Tristan Smith, 13, a veteran Toys-for-Tots volunteer who helps Little General present all of the company’s donations.
According to Houck, Little General donated $30,000 to CHS and Greg Darby personally donated $10,000, totaling $40,000.
Pearce expressed her gratitude to Little General and shared that 100 percent of the funds will go directly into CHS programs that serve West Virginian children and families.
“This donation is remarkable,” Pearce told Lootpress. “Children’s Home Society, we are here 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. We are going to do everything we can to continue serving children and families, and this donation will help make that possible.”
Little General’s donation will go toward CHS’s Emergency Child Shelter program and Foster Care program, according to White, who spoke highly of Little General-a large supporter of CHS for many years.
“For a nonprofit organization that relies so much on community support, the funding from Little General and Greg Darby and everything that they in their community means everything to us. Having the funds to meet those needs, it just provides so much support that, otherwise, we wouldn’t have.
“They embrace helping their community and helping those in need. It is in their hearts to do it, and it’s not for show. They truly want to do it. They work so hard at raising money for us because they know that it takes a lot. Little General does amazing things across the state, but they are the heart and soul in helping Children’s Home Society. Greg Darby is a champion for children.”
Houck spoke on behalf of Little General, stating that CHS’s work to aid West Virginian youth is unparalleled.
“The Children’s Home Society of Sothern West Virginia touched our hearts a good many years ago, and they are one of our main benefactors. We are so committed to what they do. They are so wonderful and so giving. They are a statewide organization, and we are a statewide company, so this donation supports the state of West Virginia. Now, that money can be distributed through various branches and areas and can help so many in a large region.”
Statewide, CHS takes care of more than 15,000 children and families. With 13 primary locations across West Virginia, the 124-year-old organization serves 360 foster children daily.
Little General’s donation will allow CHS to continue to impact every child and family under their care.
