HINTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The City of Hinton says that they were given an update this week by DOH District Engineer Jim Moore on the ongoing progress for the replacement of the 17th Ave drainage collapse affecting Rt. 20.
City officials say because of the type of project and the need to acquire right of ways it has taken time to get to this point.
Planning and Engineering have been completed and the process to bid out the Core Drilling of the new drain will happen on May 9th. Once a contractor has been selected, prior to the boring start, the plan is to move the bridge and repave and begin to reuse Rt 20 again.
Officials estimate that this will occur in late June or July. The new drain will be drilled to the left of the existing Police Station. The City has now been granted clearance to remove the old Police Station.
A company has been selected to demo and relocate parts of the building. That process will begin soon.
This project is estimated to cost between $4.5
million and $5.5 Million and will be paid for with Federal Tax Dollars.
The City of Hinton says they want to see this resolved as soon as possible and that they appreciate the continued patience of the public as the WV DOH continues its work.
