President Joe Biden finds himself slightly underwater in his job approval nationwide with 43% Approval, 49% Disapproval, nearly one in ten (7%) Americans ‘unsure’ whether or not they approve or disapprove of the President.
In West Virginia, President Biden receives his lowest Approval rating at 21% and his highest Disapproval rating at an eye-popping 73%. This is a steep drop in net approval since the president’s inauguration when his approval in West Virginia stood at 30% and disapproval sat at 62%. This marks a 20% net decrease in approval from January to July of 2021.
During the November 2020 Presidential Election, then candidate Joe Biden received only 29.7% while President Donald J. Trump received 68.6% according to the New York Times.
According to this poll, President Biden has lost nearly one third of his voters’ support in West Virginia just over six months into his presidency.
His highest approval is among the oldest demographic of West Virginians, those age 65 and older with a 29% approval and a 68% disapproval. O those age 18-34, 17% approve and 74% disapprove. For the 35-49 year old category, 22% approve of the president while 72% disapprove. Lastly, 19% of West Virginians age 50-64 approve of Biden while 79% disapprove.
Women in West Virginia approve of President Biden around ten percent more than their male counterparts. 26% of women approve and 67% disapprove while only 16% of men approve and 81% disapprove.
President Biden enjoys a comfortable lead among African American West Virginians who approve of the president 62%-27% and among registered Democrats in the state with 83% approving and 9% disapproving.
