The 5th largest coal fired power plant in the United States is in Putnam County, West Virginia. From its three coal fired units the 2,900 MW John E. Amos power plant manufactures about 11 million megawatt hours of electricity a year from 6.2 million tons of West Virginia coal.
The plant has a total economic impact of $768 million per year and accounts for 365 direct jobs and another 668 that rely on the plant’s continued operation. Total payroll for the 1,033 direct and indirect jobs comes in at $124 million per year.
