RALEIGH COUNTY, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – After releasing its report for the amount of trash and debris cleaned up in 2020, the Raleigh County Day Report Center’s Community Service Department states that their department cleaned up 60,860 pounds of trash.
Not only did the department clean up more than 30,000 tons of trash, but also 525 tires from creeks, hillsides and dumping sites within the county.
According to Community Service Supervisor Charles Briscoe, the goal was to clean up 100,000 pounds of trash in 2020, but they were cut short because of COVID-19 and were only able to operate for seven months out of the year. The department was on track to meet its goal when it was forced to cease operation.
Although they were not able to make their original goal, Briscoe says the department is pleased with the number.
“…I think it’s a pretty good accomplishment considering we were down for a while,” Briscoe said, adding that the department cleaned up 86,500 pounds of trash in 2019.
The Raleigh County Day Report Center’s Community Service Department encourages Raleigh County residents to refrain from dumping their trash outside and instead take all garbage to the landfill where it can be disposed of properly.
