BECKLEY, WV. (LOOTPRESS) – Each year, students in WVU Tech’s art history 101 course are challenged to use their talents to create their own take on the iconic Carter Hall building. This blending of art and history is a fun project for students with an upside: a panel of judges from the local arts community select the best entries and award tuition waivers of $500 and $250 for the top two.
Here’s a look at this year’s winners:
Anthony Thomas Hailey – First Place
Chelsea Little – Second Place
Hope Tyree – Honorable Mention
Other finalists include Clarissa Jones and Clayton Miller.
The 2021 Carter Hall art contest judging panels includes several members of the West Virginia Department of Art, Culture and History: Stephen Brightwell, Photographer; Holli Vanater, Museum Operations Manager; Lance Shrader, Director of WV Arts & Grants; Shannon Cook, Museum Section Organizer; and Brad Crum, Museum Education Specialist. James White, Lead Graphic Artist at the West Virginia Library Commission; Quincy Potasnik, artist at The Tiny Sparrow – Art Studio & Happy Place; and Alyssa Shea, art teacher at Park Middle School also served as judges.
