CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – On October 26, 2022, at approximately 4:35 pm, Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a two-vehicle, head-on collision on US Rt. 60 (Maccorkle Avenue) near the intersection of Arborland Acres in St. Albans. Based on evidence at the scene, a Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling west on Maccorkle Avenue.
The pickup truck crossed the double-yellow centerline and struck a Chevrolet Equinox, which was traveling east.
One adult female in the Equinox was pronounced dead at the scene. Another adult female, who had been in the Equinox, died shortly after arriving at Thomas Hospital. An adult male and 6-year-old child from the Equinox were transported to CAMC General and are in critical condition.
Corporal S.M. Adams spoke with the driver and sole occupant of the truck, Andrew Wyrick, and observed him to have glassy, bloodshot eyes. Andrew Wyrick participated in field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. He admitted to “hitting a Delta-8 and Delta-9 THC” cartridge several times approximately 30-45 minutes prior to the crash.
Andrew Wyrick, 25-years-old of Culloden, was placed under arrest and charged with two counts of DUI with serious bodily injury and two counts of DUI causing death. His bond is $100,000.00 property or 10% cash. If you have any information to share or were a witness to the crash, please contact Corporal S.M. Adams at 304-357-0169.
Maccorkle Avenue was closed near the crash for almost 5 hours while members of Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Reconstruction Team conducted their investigation. The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the good Samaritans who stopped to offer aide to those injured in this terrible crash. We extend our sincerest condolences to those families who have been impacted and suffered the loss of a loved one.
