UPDATE: ELKINS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Boil Water Advisory was issued late Tuesday night to residents in several areas throughout the City of Elkins.
Following Tuesday’s reports of a leak in the South Elkins area which could lead to potential water service disruption, a second leak in the same area was discovered later that evening.
The second leak is reportedly affecting an 8-inch line near Ward and Lavallette, and heavy equipment was utilized in the process of excavating the area to determine the nature of the leak as exhibited in photos shared by Elkins City Hall. Details revealed would allow workers to determine whether the leak could be repaired through patching or if water would need to be secured to the line.
A subsequent announcement was made shortly following reports of the excavation indicating the issuing of a Boil Water Advisory notice to customers, including those in the areas of Ward Avenue, between South Davis and Livingston, south of Ward Avenue on Lavallette Avenue, Green Lane, Taylor Avenue, and Bond Lane.
Customers on South Davis Avenue and Livingston Avenue are reportedly exempt from the Boil Water Advisory notice.
While it is unclear at the time of writing for precisely how long the advisory is expected to continue, Elkins City Hall indicated that the earliest possible lift of the advisory could occur on Thursday, December 29, 2022.
LOOTPRESS will continue to provide updates to this situation as further information becomes available. Additional LOOTPRESS coverage for the Randolph County area can be found here.

ELKINS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Communities throughout Southern West Virginia continue to endure the effects of various issues stemming from frigid temperatures which persisted over the weekend.
As several Raleigh County areas scramble to make do in the wake of widespread outages as a result of burst pipes and water leaks affecting utility service, Elkins residents could be the next to incur issues.
A Tuesday release from Elkins City Hall has indicated that residents should “prepare for possible water disruption” throughout the S. Elkins region.
The statement comes as an assessment of a leak at S. Davis and Ward is underway.
The release appears to indicate that the leak has been isolated, implying that the potential effects of a possible disruption would be less severe than those currently impacting Beckley and surrounding areas.
