FAIRMONT, WV (LOOTPRESS) – It was announced Monday that Fairmont State University’s College of Nursing will be holding a free nursing academy for local students with an interest in pursuing careers in the nursing field.
The academy will be held from Monday, June 27 to Wednesday, June 29 on the Fairmont State University campus at no charge, and will be available to 10th, 11th, and 12th graders who reside in the counties of Marion, Harrison, or Monongalia.
Students will convene for the program in the Education Building from 8:00am to 4:30pm
“The mission of the nursing academy is to inspire students to pursue a professional career in nursing by exposing students to experiences and opportunities that nursing has to offer, and to help establish an education path that will lead to a professional career in nursing,” said Fairmont State University College of Nursing Dean, Laura Clayton.
The curriculum for the three-day academy will include:
- First aid
- CPR
- Stop the Bleed Certification
- Infection control and vital signs skills performance
- Nursing school preparation
- A panel discussion
- A local hospital tour and more
The academy will also offer a number of simulation experiences to participants in areas including pediatrics, geriatrics, birth, and telehealth.
