CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Kanawha County Commission will hold its first Fall Countywide Cleanup for 2021 this Saturday, September 18, in Sissonville.
The location is at a new site in Sissonville – the intersection of Sissonville Drive and Casdorph Road.
There has not been a Countywide Cleanup since 2019 due to the Covid pandemic.
“When I became a Commissioner at the beginning of 2021, one of my first goals was to reinstitute the cleanups, as I knew this was a program that our constituents asked for and wanted. I am proud to announce the Fall Cleanups will start this Saturday in Sissonville,” said Commissioner Lance Wheeler.
Commission President Kent Carper commented, “The Countywide cleanups have always been successful events that help keep debris from being thrown into our streams, creeks, and rivers, which ultimately causes significant flooding. These cleanups are important, and we need to have them each year. I am glad that we can start this successful program again this fall.”
Commissioner Ben Salango said, “I have been supportive of the Countywide Cleanup Program since becoming a Commissioner as I know the importance of this program to our community. Our Planning Department has worked hard to ensure that the cleanups could restart this fall and will be conducted safely.”
Items accepted at the Cleanup include accumulated solid waste, large appliances, air conditioners, 10 tires with a WV ID, and televisions. Recyclables are also accepted and include computers, all metals, car batteries and electronics.
Items NOT accepted include gas/propane tanks, hazardous waste, paint, chemicals and motor oil.
