FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Fayette County Schools are asking for your input on masks for the upcoming school year.
According to school officials, due to the rising number of Covid and Delta Variant cases, Fayette County is considering more intense safety measures such as mask-wearing when numbers begin to rise.
At the current time, Fayette County is indicated in gold on the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Services map and is red on the CDC map.
According to the WVDHHR, if students wear masks they will not have to quarantine if exposed. At present, we are not looking to implement mandatory mask-wearing other than buses unless one of the following scenarios should occur; the CDC map indicates Fayette in gold to red, or if the WVDHHR map indicates Fayette in gold to red on a county-wide basis.
On an individual school basis we are considering the possibility that if less than two percent of the school population is Covid positive, mask-wearing would be optional.
“Our intention is to be as normal as possible this year however, we must always be flexible to meet the safety needs of our students. Please remember that mask-wearing is always an option for staff or students who choose to mask at their discretion.”
