FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Fayette County Clerk Michelle Holly has announced the county winners in West Virginia’s first-ever “I Voted!” Sticker Contest, an initiative hosted by the WV Secretary of State’s Office to generate interest in the state’s upcoming Primary Election and highlight the talents of middle school artists.
Student artists across Fayette County participated in the contest, which invited eighth-grade students to design an official “I Voted!” sticker. The sticker is distributed to voters after they cast a ballot in person during early voting or on Election Day.
“We are proud to partner with our local schools, the State Board of Education, and our county clerks to promote this contest for eighth-grade student artists throughout the state,” said Kris Warner, West Virginia Secretary of State.
Clerk Holly announced the following Fayette County winners:
- First Place: Sarabella Wood, Midland Trail
- Second Place: Presleigh Hypes, Midland Trail
- Third Place: Allie Ruleman, Fayetteville PK-8
According to Clerk Holly, a total of 90 students entered the contest countywide.
The first-place artwork will advance to the regional competition and be submitted to the WV Secretary of State’s Office.
Four regional finalists will be announced on February 17. Those finalists will then be judged and voted on by the public through the Secretary of State’s Facebook page.
A statewide winner will be announced on March 11 during WV Civics Learning Week at the State Capitol.
“We have such talented artists in Fayette County and I want to thank all of the students who participated,” said Holly. “I want to wish our first-place winner Sarabella Wood the best of luck as she competes at the Regional level.”
