FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Fayette County woman has been charged with DUI causing bodily injury following a crash that seriously injured a juvenile dirt bike rider Friday evening in the Hico area.
According to a criminal complaint filed by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded around 7:37 p.m. on March 13, 2026, to a report of a crash involving a vehicle and a dirt bike near 913 Hawver Road.
Deputy First Class T.L. Farley reported arriving to find a black 2016 Jeep Wrangler in the roadway and a green Kawasaki dirt bike lying on its side about 25 to 30 feet in front of the vehicle.
Investigators said the roadway is a narrow single-lane road with no painted lane markings or traffic control devices and a speed limit believed to be 25 miles per hour. The crash appeared to have occurred near the top of a small hill as darkness was setting in.
Deputies observed significant damage to both vehicles. The Jeep’s driver-side tire was turned outward and its windshield was cracked. The dirt bike sustained severe damage, including a smashed front wheel, broken front forks, and handlebars that appeared nearly detached from the frame.
Debris from the crash was located in the middle of the roadway and scattered for approximately 75 feet east of the apparent impact site.
The juvenile rider, identified in the complaint as R.D., was found about 50 feet from the point of impact lying in the grass along the side of the road while receiving treatment from first responders. The rider was wearing a helmet.
Midland Trail Football has since identified the victim as quarterback Rayce Dickerson.
Deputies observed injuries to his right leg, right foot and left arm that appeared serious and required immediate advanced medical treatment.
Authorities said the victim was later flown by helicopter to a Charleston Area Medical Center hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Jeep was identified as 24-year-old Hope Alexandra Rivera of Victor. Rivera told deputies she had been traveling on Hawver Road when the collision occurred.
While speaking with Rivera, the deputy reported smelling a strong odor of alcohol coming from her breath and observing bloodshot, watery eyes and signs of dry mouth.
Rivera agreed to perform standardized field sobriety tests but refused to provide a breath sample using a preliminary breath test device.
According to the complaint, the results of the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, Walk-and-Turn, and One-Leg Stand tests showed several indicators consistent with impairment.
Rivera was placed under arrest for DUI causing bodily injury and transported to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department in Fayetteville for processing.
At the sheriff’s office, Rivera agreed to provide a breath sample after being read the West Virginia Implied Consent statement. The breath test reportedly showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.113.
During questioning, Rivera told investigators she had consumed four Miller beers prior to operating the vehicle.
After processing, Rivera was taken to Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill for medical clearance and later transported to Southern Regional Jail where she remains on a $15,000 cash-only bond.
Deputies stated in the complaint that the crash appeared to have occurred as a result of Rivera operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
