HICO, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Gov. Jim Justice visited Midland Trail High School on Monday morning to present over $15 million for a new elementary school.
Gov. Justice was joined by local officials along with students from the current elementary schools that will be consolidated into the new school.
In December, $15,625,860 in School Building Authority (SBA) funding was allotted to Fayette County to construct a new elementary school on the campus of the Midland Trail Educational Complex in Hico.
As Chairman of the West Virginia SBA, Gov. Justice led a vote to approve the award.
The Fayette County Board of Education (FCBOE) has pledged $6,000,000 in funding for the total $21,625,860 project.
Ansted Elementary in Ansted and Divide Elementary in Lookout will be consolidated into the new Midland Trail Elementary School.
Those buildings will be donated to the community.
The new Midland Trail Elementary will house students in grades PK-5.
According to the SBA Existing Building Evaluation Report, Ansted Elementary is listed as being in poor condition, while Divide Elementary is listed as being in fair condition.
Following public hearings, the FCBOE voted to close both schools in 2021.
