CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Governor Patrick Morrisey on Wednesday declared a State of Preparedness for all 55 counties as a winter storm is expected to impact West Virginia through the upcoming weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect for most of the state from Saturday morning through Monday morning.
Forecasters say significant travel impacts are possible, especially from Saturday night into Sunday as the storm system moves across the region.
The declaration allows the West Virginia Emergency Management Division to prepare staff and resources in advance.
State agencies have been placed on standby and are prepared to report to the State Emergency Operations Center if conditions warrant.
Governor Morrisey urged residents to remain vigilant, monitor local forecasts, follow guidance from emergency officials, limit unnecessary travel during hazardous conditions, and take steps to ensure personal safety throughout the storm.
