“HUNTINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – “After a multi-year planning process, Gov. Jim Justice and Mayor Steve Williams announced this morning that the construction contract for the first two phases of the Hal Greer Boulevard Corridor Management Project has been awarded to Triton Construction, Inc., and that road work will begin in March.
The first two phases of this project, which will stretch from Washington Boulevard to 3rd Avenue on Hal Greer Boulevard, is designed to make the corridor more user-friendly and safer for motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists. It also includes several aesthetic improvements.
Some of the improvements will include mid-block crossings in key locations; improved signal timing; improved lighting; realigned intersections at 10th and Charleston avenues; protected bike lanes from 3rd to 7th avenues; and wider sidewalks.
The planning process for these improvements included four public meetings and online surveys and maps that engaged more than 600 residents.
Funding for the first two phases of the project was provided by the KYOVA Interstate Planning Commission through a federal transportation grant and matched by the City of Huntington.
The project also calls for adding conduit along Hal Greer Boulevard for high-speed broadband. This component was funded by Thundercloud and Marshall Health.
The third and final phase of this project (Washington Boulevard to Kinetic Park Drive) is still in development.
