(LOOTPRESS) – From his trusted Gibson SG to his iconic schoolboy stage attire, AC/DC guitarist Angus Young has cultivated an image over time which has endowed his band with an instant recognizability before the needle even falls on a record.Â
Along with late brother Malcolm, Angus Young formed AC/DC in Sydney, Australia in 1973, forging a path forward for the band that would see them ascend to rock royalty.Â
The blistering lead passages and prominent blues influence of Young’s guitar work provided the perfect counterpoint to the tasteful, minimalist chord stabs which constituted his brother’s approach to the instrument. The two musical voices in tandem coalesced to produce an electrifying blend which would help to redefine rock and roll throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
AC/DC would continue to power forward through the decades, remaining devoutly faithful to the band’s trademark sound and pushing over 200 million units in album sales in the process.
Most recently, the band released 2020’s Power Up, a project of remarkable quality given its production nearly a century into the band’s career. The record sold over a million copies and hit number one in 21 countries.Â
Here’s wishing a Happy 68th Birthday to one of rock’s most iconic figures, guitarist, songwriter, and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Angus Young.Â
