Blizzard announced Hearthstone’s first ever “Mini-Set” today: The Darkmoon Races. This update will add 35 brand new cards to the pre-existing Darkmoon Faire packs or can purchased in the Mini-Set for $14.99 or 2000 gold in the shop. The Darkmoon Races Mini-Set becomes available on January 21.
Blizzard’s decision to include a Mini-Set into the game is extremely refreshing. Months into an expansion release, constructed players will find themselves playing against a small selection of the game’s best meta decks, and variety in constructed can begin to feel stale. I really love the idea of a small injection of new cards during this period to spice up gameplay and allow for new meta decks to surface.
The Darkmoon Races payment model is unique in allowing players to access all the new cards as a bundle with gold. Players who saved up gold earned via quests and just playing the game can get all the new cards on release without spending any money, which is REALLY great compared to the typical model of praying you get the cards you want from randomized packs.
This megathread on the Hearthstone subreddit will update with all the new cards as they are revealed leading up to the Darkmoon Races’ release. Until then, you can start saving up your gold now to access all the cards starting Thursday!
