Herbert Allen “Herkie” McKinney, age 71, of Pluto Road, Shady Spring, WV
passed away at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley on Sunday, April 18, 2021.
Born on December 17, 1949 in Beckley, he was the son of the late
Herbert McKinney and Audrey Lafon McKinney.
Mr. McKinney was a former truck driver, a former manager of the
kitchen at a correctional facility, and lastly worked as a security officer at
Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.
Herkie, as he was affectionately known by family and friends,
enjoyed gardening, and four –wheeling on his side by side. He loved spending
time with his children and grandchildren. Herkie was a member of Fountains of
Liberty Church of God in Beaver, where he also served as a fill in minister for
Bishop Clyburn.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant twin
children.
Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife of
nearly 22 years, Sue Cozort McKinney; three children: Michele of Ireland,
Missy and husband Chuck of Martinsburg, and Kris of Maryland; four daughters by
marriage: Christy and husband Mark of Bolt, Angie of Pineville, Dawn and husband
David of Daniels, and Sheri and husband Darrin of Daniels.
Siblings: Debbie and husband Jonathan of Virginia, Rockie and
wife Judy of Beckley, and Jerry of Tennessee.
16 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren also survive.
A Celebration of Life Fellowship will be held at Fountains
of Liberty Church of God in Beaver, WV on Saturday, April 24, 2021 from 2 PM
until 4 PM.
Facial coverings and social distancing will be observed as mandated
by the Governor of the State of WV.
