BRUCETON MILLS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – On Monday, March 2, 2026, at approximately 11:20 a.m., Isom Cooper was found unresponsive at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Hazelton in Bruceton Mills, West Virginia.
Responding employees initiated life-saving measures. Emergency medical services (EMS) were requested while life-saving efforts continued. Mr. Cooper was subsequently pronounced deceased by EMS personnel.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation was notified.
No employees or other incarcerated individuals were injured and at no time was the public in danger.
Mr. Cooper was a 62-year-old male who was sentenced in the District of Columbia, Superior Court to a Life sentence for Armed Robbery of a Senior Citizen and Theft I. He had been in custody at FCI Hazelton since April 22, 2024.
FCI Hazelton is a medium-security facility.
