Jackie Lee Payne, age 82, of Kearneysville, WV passed away on Wednesday, May
5, 2021 at his home.
Born on April 23, 1939 in Corrine, he was the son of the late Oma Payne.
Mr. Payne was retired from an elevator company in Washington, D.C for
43 years, and served his country in the US Marine Corp. He had made his home in
Kearneysville for the past 43 years, and was a member of the New Prospect
Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a son, Jackie
Jake Payne, a grandson Jeffrey Wilt Jr., and by all of his siblings. He was
the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife of 62
years, Dorothy H. Danberry Payne; a daughter, Donna Wilt of Kearneysville; a
grandson, Joseph Wilt and wife Whittney of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three
great grandchildren, Gia, Presley and Paisley Wilt. His best friends,
Charlotte and Duke Thomas of Beckley also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace
Chapel in Beckley on Sunday, May 9, 2021 at 8 PM with Pastor Gary Williams
officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 7 PM until service time on
Sunday at the funeral home. A private entombment will follow at Blue Ridge
Memorial Gardens Mausoleum at Prosperity, WV on Monday morning May 10, 2021.
Facial coverings and social distancing will be observed as mandated by the
Governor of the State of WV.
