James Allen Russell went home to be with his heavenly father on September 1, 2023, following a long illness.
James was born on September 11, 1940, to the late Brady and Zella Russell of Kieffer, West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Thelma Goddard, Alma Belle Crookshanks, Charles Russell, and Ruth Remley.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving daughters, Angela Rogers (Larry Rogers), of Charleston, Traci Gardner (Doug Dilley) of Kieffer, 5 stepchildren; granddaughters, Ashley Prowse (Jamie Prowse) of Charleston, Jessica Hunter, of Grassy Meadows, and Andrea Gardner, of Kieffer, great-granddaughters, Abbie Prowse and Lillie Prowse, of Charleston, and Gracelyn Hunter, of Grassy Meadows, and one sister, Myrna Bowles, of Rupert.
James was a man of many trades. Throughout his life he worked as a coal miner, a woodsman for Meadow River, and in the rock quarry. He was a handy man, and there was simply nothing he couldn’t fix. He always put others first and brought happiness to everyone he come in contact with. He could make anyone’s day better by just simply being around him. If you knew James, you knew how strong his faith in the Lord was. James was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Amwell Baptist Church for over 25 years. He loved listening to his gospel music and attending church when his health would allow.
James enjoyed spending time with his family, playing bingo, gardening, mowing grass and caring for his “pretty bird”.
Although our hearts are broken to no longer have him here with us on earth, we know he is no longer in pain and is rejoicing with his precious Lord and Saviour and his loved ones that have gone on before him.
