Mr. Nelson retired from Bluefield State College after 22 years of service. He was also a former employee of Wal-Mart in Princeton and Myra’s Flower Shop. He attended Fairview Christian Community Church in Princeton and enjoyed playing pool and mowing grass.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Arlene Howerton Nelson; brothers, Ray Nelson, Ricky Nelson and Robert Nelson; and sister, Phyllis Ratliff.
Survivors include sons, Russell Nelson and wife Tammy of Hardy, VA, Freddie Nelson and wife Jennifer of Colorado Springs, CO and Dwayne Nelson and wife Eva of Princeton; sisters, Janice Jenkins and husband Arlion of Princeton, Macie Stevens of Conway, SC and Ethel Stephens of Lynchburg, VA; seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2021 at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Rev. Larry Dyer officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Princeton.
