BLUEFIELD, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The City of Bluefield will have its first celebration of Juneteenth with a march and speakers on Saturday, June 19th at 10:30 am.
On June 19th, 1865, slaves were emancipated from slavery. The nineteenth of June is also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, Liberation Day, or Emancipation Day in Texas.
The organizer for this event is Ken Hunt. He is the Social Action Chairman of the Chi Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. In June of 2020, the City of Bluefield officially recognized Juneteenth in a proclamation.
“The brothers of Omega Psi Phi, with the City of Bluefield, would like to invite you to join us for a march and celebration in remembrance of our Ancestors’ Liberation,” said Hunt.
It will begin with a march at the Martin Luther King bridge and continue to Chicory Square. After that, a program will commence with speakers and songs. Refreshments and free food will be available after the march.
If you would like to become a sponsor, please contact Ken Hunt at 980-699-0408 or email q242321@gmail.com. Sponsors will be announced in the program at the event.
