GLEN JEAN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A popular trail within the New River Gorge National Park & Preserve will remain closed until November, according to park officials.
According to the National Park Service, the Kaymoor Miners Trail steps that travel from the bench level of the trail down to the bottom currently remain closed for major repairs.
The stairs are undergoing a major rehabilitation project to replace broken boards and reinforce weaker areas of the steps.
Due to issues related to the structural integrity of the stairwell and difficulty in movement and placement of construction materials in the steep, uneven terrain above the river, the stairs will remain closed.
The stairs are projected to remain closed until November 9th.
All other sections of the Kaymoor Trail and Kaymoor Miners Trail are not impacted by this project and will remain open.
