Mr. Akers was a member of Rich Creek Baptist Church in Spanishburg. He enjoyed reading his Bible and listening to gospel and bluegrass music. He retired from Allied Chemical Co. at Traylee, where he worked at the tipple. He was a member of the UMWA and the Pinoak Hunting Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and watching old western movies on TV. Kent was a loving husband and wonderful father and was always willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and was the last member of his immediate family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by first wife, and mother of his children, Faye Underwood Akers; and second wife, Verleen White Mills Akers; children, Connie Nicholson and Danny K. Akers; brothers, Gaythel Akers and Vencil Akers; and sister, Wanda Linder.
Survivors include daughter, Debbie Lusk and husband Tim of Bluefield; grandsons, Brian T. Lusk and wife Danielle of Radford, VA and Christopher D. Lusk and wife Sonja of Apex, NC; granddaughters, Melissa Smith and wife April and Christi Manley and husband Karey all of Princeton; great grandsons, Jordan Smith and Conner and Blake Manley; great granddaughter, Emsleigh Lusk; son-in-law, Lowell Nicholson; daughter-in-law, Judy Akers; and former daughter-in-law, Patty Jones of Alderson.
A graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. James Mattox officiating. Friends attending the service are asked to meet at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home at 12:45. Grandsons and great grandsons will be pallbearers. The family requests that, due to COVID-19, please wear a mask and observe social distancing at the cemetery.
