SURVEYOR, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – This Friday and Saturday, June 18 and 19, Lake Stephens will host its annual Beach Blast- a family event made complete will carnival rides, food, vendors, dance parties, live deejays and more.
The Beach Blast has always been loved by the residents of Raleigh County and has been a quintessential summer event for the last decade.
According to Syndey Clyburn, Lake Stephens office manager, the event saw nearly 2,000 visitors a day in past years.
The success of the event and its place in the community only made the news of its cancellation last year that much more upsetting for lake staff, event organizers and visitors.
“As a park, last year was highly disappointing,” Clyburn stated. “This is one of our biggest events. This year, we want to show the community that even though we didn’t get together last year, it’s only going to be bigger and better this year.”
In the spirit of giving the community something bigger and better to enjoy, Clyburn says this year’s event will offer more vendors, more food and more fun.
“This year, we are going more out as far as vendors. We will have vendors from all over the state to celebrate West Virginia culture. There will be carnival rides, games for adults and kids, treats, crafts, BBQ, Italian cuisine, anything you can imagine and a little something for everyone,” she added.
“We are excited to get the community together for activities this year now that we are able to do it again. We want to provide that to the community. We want to get families together and give them those memories.”
As the lake is setting up for the blast, Executive Director of Raleigh County Parks and Recreation Molly Williams says she hopes everyone has a good time at a safe and sunny event.
“We really wanted to do something for the community, for those who missed out on all those opportunities last year summer. We want to make up for that.”
When asked what it is about the Beach Blast that keeps bringing people back, Williams says she believes it’s the history.
“Everyone has a different reason for coming. For some, it’s a thing in their family. They live around here and have been coming year after year. For others, it’s a want to find a new thing to do, and then it becomes tradition.”
Clyburn says the lake has already received incredible feedback from the event’s advertising through social media shares, private calls, etc. Because of this, event organizers believe they will see more people at this year’s Beach Blast than ever before.
While organizers are working hard to prepare for the event, Clyburn says she most looks forward to the days following the blast, so she can see posts, comments and pictures from families and friends who attended. She encouraged visitors to share the memories made at this year’s Beach Blast.
The Beach Blast will take place from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
All events will be held at 1400 Lake Stephens Road in Surveyor. The cost is $5 per car but beach and water park passes, rides and food are separate costs.
