HINTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A Summers County man was arrested Saturday night after police say he threw an Easter decoration at his sister during a domestic dispute inside a Hinton residence, leaving her with visible injuries.
According to the Hinton Police Department, officers responded to a 911 call reporting a physical domestic disturbance in progress onMaple Street on March 7, 2026, at approximately 10:43 p.m.
Cpl. G.O. Stowers arrived at the scene and made contact with the victim in the incident.
Victim Reports Being Struck with Object
The victim told officers that her brother, Russell Adkins, had picked up an Easter ornament during an argument and thrown it at her, striking her in the left hand.
Police observed scrapes and red marks on her left hand, injuries that were consistent with her account of the incident.
According to the victim, she had just returned home from work when the confrontation began. She told officers she attempted to retreat to her bedroom to avoid the situation, but said Adkins followed her and the incident escalated.
Yopp denied throwing any objects during the dispute.
Suspect Admits Throwing Object
Officers then spoke with Russell Adkins, who admitted that he threw the ornament at his sister. However, he claimed he did so because she had thrown the object at him first.
Investigators noted that the statements from the two individuals differed regarding how the altercation began.
Arrest Made
Based on the victim’s injuries and the statements gathered during the investigation, officers determined there was probable cause to take Adkins into custody.
The incident occurred within the City of Hinton in Summers County, West Virginia.
