BOONE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A Friday night altercation in Boone County led to the arrest of an adult man after a juvenile was injured and troopers were forced to physically restrain the suspect.
According to the West Virginia State Police, troopers were dispatched at approximately 7:57 p.m. on January 9, 2026, to a residence on Coon Hollow Road in Morrisvale following a report of a fight involving an adult male and a juvenile. Boone County 911 advised that the juvenile had been injured and that EMS was responding to evaluate him.
Troopers later located the juvenile about one mile from the residence with his guardian. The juvenile told troopers that the adult male had struck him. Officers observed a deep laceration on the juvenile’s back.
Troopers then went to a nearby residence on Coon Hollow Road, where they located the accused, identified as Jonathan Elswick, lying on a couch inside the home. The front door was open when troopers arrived. Officers entered and repeatedly ordered Elswick to show his hands and stand up, but he refused to comply.
Troopers attempted to take Elswick into custody, at which point he reportedly resisted, pulling away and refusing to give his hands. After a brief struggle, troopers were able to restrain him and place him in the back of a patrol vehicle.
While being transported to the West Virginia State Police Madison detachment for processing, Elswick allegedly slipped his hands out of the restraints on two separate occasions despite being told to stop. Once at the detachment, he also refused to be fingerprinted, according to police.
