WHITESVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A Boone County man is facing serious charges after a late-night altercation at a local café escalated into alleged threats involving firearms and violence against multiple victims, according to law enforcement.
Troopers with the West Virginia State Police responded around 2:43 a.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2026, to a reported fight at Terry’s Café on Raleigh Street in Whitesville.
Upon arrival, officers located the accused, identified as James Davis, sitting inside a vehicle where multiple firearms were later discovered. Davis reportedly admitted to striking another man during an argument.
Investigators say one victim suffered a swollen and bloody head injury after attempting to intervene in the situation. According to statements given to troopers, the victim tried to de-escalate the conflict but was allegedly struck by Davis, causing him to fall backward and hit his head on the concrete.
A second victim, identified as Davis’ wife, told troopers the incident stemmed from an ongoing domestic situation. She reported that she was attempting to leave the area with a friend when Davis approached the vehicle and tried to get inside. When she refused, Davis allegedly threatened her and retrieved a firearm described as a white VR80.
The woman told investigators Davis brandished the weapon and made threatening statements, including asking if she “wanted to see something happen.” She further alleged that Davis then struck the other victim, knocking him unconscious, and threatened to shoot everyone if she did not return home with him.
According to the report, Davis also allegedly stated he would shoot law enforcement if officers responded to the scene.
Authorities noted that Davis has a prior domestic battery conviction dating back to October 2021.
The investigation remains ongoing. Charges related to the incident are pending as the case moves through the legal process.
