Marshall’s men’s soccer team will advance to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) College Cup after beating the University of North Carolina (UNC) 1 to 0. This will be the team’s first time competing in the College Cup.
The semifinal game was held today at 6 p.m. at Sahlen’s Stadium in Cary, North Carolina. Fans who could not attend the game were able to watch it on ESPNU.
Marshall has had a great run at the tournament so far, beating the defending national champions, the Georgetown Hoyas, as well as the number one ranked team, Clemson. Marshall was ranked the tenth seed this year.
The game was tied at the half, but the stalemate was finally broken with a goal from Marshall’s Jamil Roberts. This was his fourth goal this year and the eighteenth of his career.
The championship game will be held on Monday, May 17 at 8 p.m. at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina, and available to watch on ESPN2. The Herd will play the winner of the Indiana/Pittsburgh game.
