Marvolene Nelson Hunley, 92, of London, WV, peacefully passed away at Hubbard Hospice House on February 5, 2024, after bravely battling cancer for an extended period.
Marvolene was born in Boone County, WV, to Dennis and Hartzel Dolin Nelson. The family relocated to Ward, WV, where she started school. It was there where she crossed paths with the love of her life, Bill Hunley Sr., at the age of 17. Their union led to the joyous upbringing of three sons—Gary, Jerry, and Bill Jr.
Though Marvolene briefly pursued a career in retail, serving at GC Murphy’s in Montgomery, WV, during the 1970s, her primary role was that of a dedicated homemaker. Following the raising of their children, Marvolene and Bill embarked on countless adventures traversing the United States, with destinations such as Nashville, TN, and Branson, MO, holding special places in their hearts. Their shared passion for country music was something else they enjoyed.
Above all, family held the utmost significance for Marvolene. She played an integral role in raising several of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her home was a welcoming sanctuary, always open to visitors in need of a warm meal and a comfortable bed.
Marvolene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill Hunley Sr., her sons, Gary and Jerry Hunley, her parents, Dennis and Hartzel Dolin Nelson, and her siblings, Betty, Mona, Nikki, and Ronnie.
She is survived by her son, Bill Hunley Jr. (Pam), daughter-in-law Karen Hunley, eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and one on the way.
Throughout her courageous two-year battle with cancer, Marvolene received unwavering care and support from her granddaughters, Kelly Price and Joni Cummings, as well as from her son, Bill Hunley Jr., and daughter-in-law, Pam Hunley.
Marvolene was loved by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff on the 3rd floor of CAMC Women & Children’s Hospital, as well as to the dedicated team at Hubbard Hospice House, for their exceptional care, ensuring Marvolene’s comfort during her final days.
