HICO, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Midland Trail High School community is grieving following the death of one of its students, a loss school officials described as devastating.
In a statement released by the school, administrators acknowledged the deep impact of the tragedy on students, staff, and families.
“Our hearts are heavy as we share the devastating news of the tragic loss of life of one of our students. Today, our close-knit community is facing a profound loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected.”
School officials emphasized the importance of unity and compassion during the difficult time, extending condolences to those closest to the student.
“In times like these, it’s essential to come together as a community to support one another. We extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones who are enduring this unimaginable pain.”
The statement also highlighted the strength of the school community and the need to support students as they cope with grief.
“Let us remember the strength of our community and the resilience of our young minds. We must unite to provide comfort and support to those who need it most during this trying time.”
School leaders encouraged anyone who may be struggling to seek help and reminded students they are not alone.

Ansted Baptist Church will open its doors this evening at 6 p.m. to welcome youth, adults, and community members who wish to pray, talk, or simply be in the presence of others during this difficult time. All are welcome to attend.
All practices and games for Tuesday evening at Midland Trail have been canceled.
