MINGO COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Mingo County Commission revealed several details Wednesday pertaining to funding awarded for its 2022 spay/neuter project.
Responding to a number of apparent inquiries on the project, the commission revealed that vouchers are not currently ready to be issued, as program details are still being discussed.
The program will only be available to residents of Mingo County, and ID will be required at the time of application with no exceptions.
Vouchers will not be issued over the phone due to the residency requirement, and all vouchers must be presented in person.
Due to limited funding, vouchers will be limited to two per household.
Though all residents of Mingo county will be eligible to receive a voucher, low-income residents will be given priority per program guidelines. Those claiming low-income status on an application will be required to complete the paperwork declaring such.
The final date for use of vouchers is October 31, 2022, and vouchers which have not been used by this date will be null and void. No vouchers will be issued once funds have been depleted.
Issuance of vouchers will be conducted on a first come, first serve basis, with no vouchers being put back or saved for anyone.
The program will only cover the surgical procedure, and all vaccinations or medications required will be the responsibility of the pet owner.
A priority of the program will be the spaying and neutering of community (feral) cats, though the commission will not be conducting a catch and release projects. This means that residents will be responsible for the obtaining of vouchers for community cats, as well as the transport of these animals to and from the veterinary clinic.
Leigh Ann Ray, Grants Coordinator/Project Manager for the Mingo County Commission will be available to answer questions anyone may have on the program, and she can be reached at (304) 235-0338.
