BERKELEY COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Multiple schools in Berkeley County were evacuated after a student made a bomb threat at South Middle School Monday morning.
According to an update from Berkeley County Schools, Mark Barney, Principal, of South Middle School received a notice of a bomb threat from a student at approximately 10:35 AM today.
Mr. Barney and his team immediately evacuated students and staff to the football field at Martinsburg High School. Law enforcement responded, and working with bomb dogs, swept the entire school building and cleared South Middle School for reentry at approximately 11:50 AM.
Students and staff have resumed their school day. A student has been identified as the threat with legal and disciplinary actions being taken, BCS says.
The precautionary code orange placed at both Martinsburg High School and Berkeley Heights Elementary has been lifted.
“Thank you to our students and staff at all three schools. Your positive response to this situation is appreciated. We apologize for the disruption to all three schools due to this threat,” BCS said in a statement.
No other information has been released at this time.
