MERCER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS)– An old festival is making a comeback at Glenwood Park on Saturday, August 28th, 2021.
The Mercer County Commissions set aside around $10,000 to see the event come to fruition. Commissioner Greg Puckett is excited for the festival.
“It’s gonna be a great time and great opportunity as we come out of Covid to get back together and celebrate the community,” said Puckett.
Music in the Mountains was around in the 80s but due to a fire, the stage burned down and the event didn’t happen again.
Festival organizer and member of Chosen Road Johnathon Buckner is the one who talked to the commission to revive this festival. Buckner travels and performs nationally with his band but decided that he wanted a festival back in his hometown. Buckner and Mercer County Commission planned to do this last year, but Covid stopped that from happening.
“I thought for years of this being a perfect place to feature mountain music, Appalachian music, roots music and Glenwood Park is a hidden gem and not a lot of people from the outside know about it,” said Buckner.
Ticket prices are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Discounts will be provided for children, military, emergency services and educators. Limited parking will be available but a shuttle service will be provided. Since this event is at a county park, no alcohol will be permitted but food vendors will be on the premises.
