WELCH, WV (LOOTPRESS)— The West Virginia Coalfields Cookoff has announced a date for their barbeque competition.
The event is hosted by the City of Welch and spans for two days on Friday, June 11th, and Saturday, June 12th.
This is a part of the Kansas City Barbeque Society national cookoff that happens around the country. BBQ teams from all over come to take part in the state championship.
Teams will compete for almost $5000 in prizes and the title of WV BBQ Champion.
An ATV contest for ‘Big Boss’ and the ‘Ugliest ATV’ will happen near the festival grounds. A Battle of the Bands contest sponsored by Pinecastle Music will offer the winning band the chance for a recording opportunity and cash prizes.
“Attendees can sink their teeth into some of the best BBQ from vendors throughout the region or participate in some taste testing from competitors,” said in a statement.
This event will also have a beer garden for adults and other unique vendors featuring regional artisans that will sell their crafts.
Kids will also have something to do at the event’s Kids Korner with activities for all ages.
Tickets are sold on the official website or at the City of Welch for $5 in advance or at the gate for $10. Children under the age of 12 get in for free. A portion of the proceeds is going to be donated to the Welch Volunteer Firefighters.
The event is also looking for volunteers that would like to help with admission and assistance. You can sign up here.
