GLEN JEAN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – During the month of April 2023, the New River Gorge National Park & Preserve saw an increase in visitors compared to April 2022.
According to data released by the National Park Service, New River Gorge National Park & Preserve saw a 7.4% increase in visitors during the month of April compared to the same time one year ago.
During the same month last year, the park recorded 117,824 visitors compared to 126,494 during April of 2023.
The Canyon Rim Visitor Center in Lansing saw a significant jump in visitors. 39,480 visitors were recorded last year during April, and 45,420 were recorded this April resulting in a 15% increase.
The Grandview Visitor Center also saw an increase going from 15,473 visitors last April, to 15,963 this April, a 3.2% increase. The Sandstone Visitor Center saw a slight decrease in visitation during April as 8,640 visitors were recorded last year and 8,473 during April of this year.
This year to date, the park has recorded a total of 281,733 visitors compared to 258,466 visitors at the same time last year. The park has seen a 9% increase in total visitation for the current fiscal year.
