HUNTINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The City of Huntington recently announced speed limit changes to some roadways within the city.
It was revealed in a recent statement that 3rd and 5th Avenues between 6th and 20th Street, an area in which the speed limit was 35mph, recently dropped to a residential speed limit of 25mph.
The change was announced earlier this month, and will remain in effect through the coming months as data is collected and analyzed pertaining to pedestrian and motorist safety.
West Virginia Department of Transportation Secretary Jimmy Wriston issued the order for the change, which purportedly will be temporary.
This reduction was preceded, in January, by the formation of a Pedestrian Safety Task Force with the intent of increasing safety throughout the area.
The City of Huntington has also been working to address heavy rainfalls, which resulted in flooding throughout the Green Valley area along Fourpole Creek Monday morning.
Residents of Enslow Park and the Southside who had experienced flooding during the heavy storms of May – more on that here – were encouraged to move their vehicles to higher ground, while those with special medical needs were encouraged to consider evacuation.
Monday afternoon, it was disclosed that the National Weather Service had indicated conditions to have peaked in the Fourpole Creek area for the day’s rains.
More information on conditions throughout Huntington can be found here at the official city website.Â
