OCEANA, WV (LOOTPRESS) – An announcement has been made that Oceana City Hall will be opened as a warming center on Thursday.
According to a Wednesday statement from the Oceana Fire Department, the council chamber of Oceana City Hall will be made available to utilize as a warming center beginning Thursday evening in anticipation of the coming winter weather.
The statement, which was subsequently shared by Oceana City Hall itself, indicates that the council chamber area will be made available beginning at 5:00 pm on Thursday.
“Effective at 5 pm tomorrow Dec. 22, 2022 the Oceana City Hall council chamber will be opened for use as a warming center,” reads the statement. “Anyone that has lost power or [is] homeless that needs a warm place to stay is welcome. It will remain open until this winter storm passes and temperatures rise back to a reasonable condition.”
Despite temperatures throughout most of Southern West Virginia remaining fairly consistent in the 30s and 40s during the day throughout the week, intense drops in temperature are expected to occur over the weekend as winter conditions intensify just in time for the Christmas holiday.
