(LOOTPRESS) – On Friday, April 28, 2023, at approximately 4:08 pm, TFC J. R. Kincaid responded to a motor vehicle crash on I-77 near the 83-mile marker.
Occeus Walkey, 46 of Lake Worth, Florida was driving south on I-77 when he lost control of the tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer struck and crossed the concrete barrier wall separating the north and southbound lanes. After crossing the barrier wall, the tractor-trailer struck a GMC truck head-on and sideswiped a small passenger vehicle.
The GMC truck was being driven by Hans Robinson, 43 of Charleston, West Virginia. Mr. Robinson was pronounced deceased on the scene by Medical Examiner Scott Corder. The front-seat passenger of the GMC truck was transported to Thomas Memorial Hospital and released. The rear seat passenger was transported to CAMC General and is in stable condition.
The driver of the small passenger vehicle was transported to CAMC General with non-life-threatening injuries. The front and rear seat passengers were transported to Thomas Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
Both northbound lanes of I-77 were closed for approximately four hours. This traffic crash fatality is being reconstructed. The status of this investigation remains active and ongoing.
