Orpha Anna Mills Cochran-Smith, age 88, of Shady Spring, WV passed away on Friday, February 9, 2024.
Born on June 7, 1935 at Beelick Knob, WV, (Fayette County), she was the daughter of the late Arthur E. Mills and Pearl Phillips Mills.
Anna, as she was known by family and friends moved to Raleigh County at the age of 9. She was a long time member of New Haven Missionary Baptist Church and had attended several other churches. She had worked at Montgomery Ward, Channel 9, FMRS, Oakwood Mobile Homes, and Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Homes in Beckley and Shady Spring as a receptionist. Anna had lived in Shady Spring since 1944.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children David H. Cochran; second husband of two years, Orval “Sonny” Smith; a son Tennis Dean Cochran; a daughter Davida Ann Lilly; a grandson Kevin Lilly; son-in-law Eugene Lilly; brothers, Buster, Orley, Oley (Bill), Ernest and James Mills; sisters Orvella Moses, Othella Sprinkle, Mary Elizabeth Candido, and Effie June Schweitz.
Those survivors left to cherish her memory include daughters, Irena Faye Baxter and husband Jim of Shady Spring, and Vickie Lynn Kidwell and husband Clifton of Glen Morgan; a brother Larry E. Mills and wife Mickey of San Angelo, Texas; Eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews also survive.
A memorial gathering will be held to Celebrate the Life of Anna Cochran-Smith on Friday, February 16, 2024 from 5 PM until 7 PM at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel.
