PALM BEACH, FL (LOOTPRESS) — Florida’s main airport serving Palm Beach is set for a major name change after state lawmakers approved legislation to rename it after President Donald Trump.
Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill Monday allowing Palm Beach International Airport to be renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport, though the change still requires approval from the Federal Aviation Administration. If approved, the rebranding is expected to take effect in July.
The airport is located near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, and supporters of the measure say the change recognizes his ties to the state. The bill’s sponsor, State Rep. Meg Weinberger, called the renaming a deserved honor.
Reactions among travelers have been mixed. Some passengers voiced support for the change, while others questioned the decision and its necessity.
Critics have also raised concerns about the estimated $5.5 million cost to update signage and materials associated with the airport’s new name.
The proposed renaming comes as Trump has continued efforts to place his name on various institutions and landmarks. In Palm Beach, a roadway connecting the airport to his residence was recently renamed in his honor.
The airport name change will move forward if federal officials grant final approval.
