SAINT ALBANS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man has been left with serious injuries after being struck by a moving vehicle Monday in Kanawha County.
The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Monday, January 30, 2023, at around 9:45pm, deputies with the department responded to the 100 block of Winfield Road in Saint Albans regarding a pedestrian who had been struck by a motor vehicle.
Investigating Deputy S.B. Savilla reports that the pedestrian – identified as 57-year-old Shawn Ball – was crossing Winfield Road while dressed in dark clothing when he was struck by a vehicle.
Witnesses to the incident report seeing the pedestrian staggering in the roadway in the moments leading up to the collision and tell deputies that the vehicle involved was being operated in a safe manner. Furthermore, reports indicate that the pediatrician is believed to have been intoxicated at the time the event occurred.
“The investigation revealed that the driver was not in violation of any state laws and the pedestrian was believed to be under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol at the time of the collision.”
Ball was transported to CAMC General Hospital following the incident to receive medical treatment for serious head injuries and remained in critical condition at the time of the investigating deputy’s report. The driver of the vehicle involved was unharmed.
