LOGAN, WV (LOOTPRESS) Southern WV Community & Technical College recently debuted its onstage production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest to an overwhelmingly positive reception.
The production, which ran for four days, had designated all proceeds from the show toward renovations and upgrades to the school’s theater, the Savas Kostas Performing Arts Center.
The local performance, based on the classic film and novel of the same name, attracted a reported 1600 attendees during its four-day run to the tune of $15,000.
“I was blown away by how professional this production turned out,” said Southern WV Community & Technical College President Dr. Pamela L. Alderman. “It was top-notch in every way. Bill, his cast, and the crew worked very hard on this show and it showed on stage. The audiences loved every minute of it.”
The Southern Foundation, which currently has a number of other fundraisers in the works, has been working to raise funds for upgrades to the theater, which has been around for decades. These renovations would include updates to curtains, sound, and lighting.
Southern WV Community & Technical College Director of Communications, Bill France, also served as director of the stage production, which featured students and faculty members of the college, as well as local community volunteers.
France also took time to design the set, which was then brought to life by carpenter Chris Erlewine, owner of Unique Kitchens. France expressed his gratitude for everyone who helped make the production such a success, commenting,
“We are glad the show was so well received. I’m extremely lucky to have so much support and encouragement from my colleagues at Southern. We are also blessed to have so many talented people in our local area.”
France also alluded to the possibility of future productions emerging as a result of the highly successful presentation of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, but reiterated the priority of getting the theater itself in the best possible shape, affirming, “Right now, we just want to focus on getting our theater ready.”
